Dry Needling, Craniosacral Therapy, Manual Therapy, Physical Therapy
Susan graduated with a Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Rhode Island in 1997 following an undergraduate degree in Secondary Education in Science from Indiana University in 1991. She has been in practice since 1997 in various settings including acute and outpatient rehabilitation in hospital settings, and private practice.
She developed an interest in alternative therapies (within the field of physical therapy) beginning with the study of craniosacral therapy in 1999. Her education has been focused on developing osteopathic manual and structural therapy skills. This study has helped her work successfully with people with chronic and acute pain syndromes. Susan enjoys working with clients who present with complex back and neck pain with neurological symptoms, diffuse body pain and pain syndromes, migraines and tension headaches, scoliosis, and conditions involving the extremities to name a few. Her approach involves looking at the alignment of the body and addressing malalignment/movement issues such that pain and inflammation is reduced as a result.
Susan is humbled by the complexity of the human body and trusts in the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Being grateful to have the opportunity to serve others with compassion and to be witness to a client’s healing process is at the core of her practice.
Modalities
Dry Needling
Dry needling is the use of acupuncture needles inserted into trigger points of the musculoskeletal system to restore optimal length to the tissue resulting in improved muscle function with reduced pain.
CranioSacral Therapy
A gentle hands-on technique that uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of the fluids in and around the central nervous system. This technique relieves tension in the nervous system and promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity.
Manual Therapies
The treatment of all tissues of the body with a hands-on approach with the goal of improving alignment. This includes manipulating muscles, joints, tendons, components of the nervous system, viscera and connective tissue.
Muscle energy technique
Joint mobilizations
Positional & myofascial release techniques
Somato-emotional release
Traditional Physical Therapy
Normalize the movement patterns in the body through integrated treatment including manual therapy and exercise.
